How these numbers are modelled
- Domestic or international: for Canada, Australia and New Zealand Etsy publishes a higher processing rate (4%) for international orders. The default is the domestic rate; tick "International order" to switch. Other countries have one rate.
- The $0.20 USD listing fee and the $100 USD Offsite Ads cap are set by Etsy in US dollars. Outside the US they are shown in your currency at an assumed exchange rate, so those two amounts are approximate.
- VAT, GST and sales tax on fees use standard national rates. Etsy does not publish these rates, so treat them as estimates. Check your own situation and your Etsy invoice. The US and Canada have no flat rate, so nothing is added there.
- Not included: the 2.5% currency conversion fee (only when your listing currency differs from your payment account currency), Etsy Ads, shipping labels, deposit fees, Etsy Plus and the shop set-up fee.
How it is calculated
Offsite Ads fee = order total x 15% (below the sales threshold) or 12% (at or above it), never more than the per-order cap. Share of order = fee / order total x 100.
All math runs in your browser; nothing you type is sent to our server. Each line is rounded to the cent and amounts are shown in the currency of the selected country, never mixed.
How the Offsite Ads fee works
Offsite Ads are advertisements Etsy runs for your listings away from Etsy. When a buyer clicks one and buys from your shop within 30 days, Etsy attributes the order to the ad and charges an Offsite Ads fee on top of the listing, transaction and payment processing fees. The fee is a percentage of the order total, so it grows with the price, shipping and gift wrap, until it reaches the cap of $100 USD per order.
There are two rates. A shop that made less than $10,000 USD in the prior 365 days pays 15%. A shop that has reached $10,000 USD or more pays 12% on attributed orders from then on. Because the lower rate is for bigger shops, small sellers pay the higher percentage, and that is the pain you read about in seller forums: a sale that looked comfortable turns out to have been an ad sale.
What the calculator shows
For the order you enter, you see the order total, the fee at the lower tier, the fee at the higher tier, the fee that applies to your shop, and the share of the order it takes. The two tiers are named in the calculator by their position relative to the threshold. A line tells you when the per-order cap applies.
Worked example
A US shop sells a $35 item with free shipping, so the order total is $35.00. At 15% the Offsite Ads fee is $5.25, which is 15.0% of the order. At 12% it is $4.20. For comparison, the other fees on that order are $0.20 listing, $2.28 transaction and $1.30 processing, $3.78 in total, so an ad order costs $9.03 in fees at 15% against $3.78 without the ad: more than double.
A $820 order shows the cap. At 15% the raw fee would be $123.00, but Etsy caps it at $100, so the fee is $100.00 and 12.2% of the order. At 12% the fee is $98.40, which is under the cap. The cap exists only for large orders, so most handmade and digital sellers pay the full percentage.
What to do with the number
If your shop is under the threshold, the number tells you whether opting out is worth considering: compare the fee with your margin in the profit calculator. If you are over the threshold you cannot opt out, so build the fee into your prices with the margin calculator. Whichever case applies, the Offsite Ads guide walks through the opt-out rules and a disputed charge.
What this calculator does not cover
It does not know whether a particular order was really attributed to an ad, whether your shop has crossed the threshold, or how Etsy treats refunded orders. It uses the rates in USD terms: for other currencies the $100 cap is shown at an approximate conversion rate, so treat it as an estimate in those countries. It does not include the listing, transaction and processing fees; the fee calculator adds those. Always check an actual charge against your Etsy statement.

Frequently asked questions
What is the Offsite Ads fee?
It is a fee Etsy charges on orders it attributes to its advertising outside Etsy, for example on search engines and social platforms. The standard fee is 15% of the order total for shops that made less than $10,000 USD over the prior 365 days. At or above that amount the fee is 12%. The fee on a single order never exceeds $100 USD.
Can I opt out of Offsite Ads?
Etsy lets shops under the $10,000 USD threshold opt out of Offsite Ads. Once a shop has made $10,000 USD or more over the prior 365 days, Etsy states it will subsequently pay the 12% fee on attributed orders, and participation is required. Check your shop settings and the Etsy Offsite Ads help article for your current status.
How does Etsy decide an order came from an ad?
Etsy uses a 30-day attribution window: if a buyer clicks one of its offsite ads and buys from your shop within 30 days, the order counts as attributed. That is why a repeat customer who ordered directly can still be charged if they clicked an ad inside the window.
Is the fee charged on shipping?
The fee is a percentage of the order total, which includes the item price, shipping and gift wrapping (and, outside the US, any taxes included in the price). The calculator therefore uses price plus shipping plus gift wrap.
How is the $10,000 threshold measured?
Etsy measures sales in USD over the prior 365 days. The calculator does not know your sales, so you choose the tier with the checkbox.
What does the $100 cap mean in practice?
The Offsite Ads fee on one order stops at $100 USD. At 15% the cap is reached on an order total of about $666.67, and at 12% on about $833.33. Above those totals the fee is flat, so the cap mainly helps sellers of expensive items.
What if I think I was charged wrongly?
Contact Etsy support with the order number and date and ask which ad click it was attributed to. Keep your own record of fees per order to compare against your statement. KeepCent cannot dispute a charge for you.
