How these numbers are modelled
- Domestic or international: for Canada, Australia and New Zealand Etsy publishes a higher processing rate (4%) for international orders. The default is the domestic rate; tick "International order" to switch. Other countries have one rate.
- The $0.20 USD listing fee and the $100 USD Offsite Ads cap are set by Etsy in US dollars. Outside the US they are shown in your currency at an assumed exchange rate, so those two amounts are approximate.
- VAT, GST and sales tax on fees use standard national rates. Etsy does not publish these rates, so treat them as estimates. Check your own situation and your Etsy invoice. The US and Canada have no flat rate, so nothing is added there.
- Not included: the 2.5% currency conversion fee (only when your listing currency differs from your payment account currency), Etsy Ads, shipping labels, deposit fees, Etsy Plus and the shop set-up fee.
How it is calculated
Order total = item price x quantity + shipping charged + gift wrap. Fees = listing fee + order total x transaction % + (order total x processing % + fixed processing fee) + Offsite Ads (order total x 12% or 15%, capped per order, only when it applies) + order total x regulatory % + VAT on fees (fees x VAT %). Every fee line is rounded to the cent. Net = order total - fees.
All math runs in your browser; nothing you type is sent to our server. Each line is rounded to the cent and amounts are shown in the currency of the selected country, never mixed.
The fees Etsy takes from one order
An Etsy order is not charged one fee but a stack of them, and each is calculated on a different base. The calculator shows every line for the country you select, in that country's currency, so you can see where the money goes instead of guessing from the deposit.
- Listing fee. $0.20 USD when a listing is published, when it auto-renews after four months, and again for each extra quantity that sells. We count one per order. Outside the US it is shown in your currency at an approximate rate, because Etsy converts it at the market rate.
- Transaction fee. 6.5% of the item price plus the shipping you charge plus gift wrapping. In the US it does not apply to sales tax. In other countries it applies to the listing price including any taxes you include.
- Payment processing fee. A percentage of the whole order total, including tax and shipping, plus a fixed amount per order. The rate depends on your country (table below).
- Offsite Ads fee, only when it applies. 15% of the order total, or 12% once your shop has made $10,000 USD or more in the prior 365 days, capped at $100 USD per order.
- Regulatory operating fee. A small percentage in some countries: the United Kingdom 0.48%, Canada 0.50% and India 0.05% among the countries here.
- VAT, GST or sales tax on fees. Etsy's fees are quoted without VAT, and tax is added where the law requires it.
Worked example: a $30 item with $5 shipping (US)
The order total is $35.00. The listing fee is $0.20. The transaction fee is 6.5% of $35.00, which is $2.28 after rounding. Processing is 3% of $35.00, which is $1.05, plus $0.25, so $1.30. Total fees are $3.78 and you keep $31.22, or 89.2% of the order, before materials, postage and your time.
Now suppose the buyer came from an Offsite Ads click and your shop is under $10,000 USD. The extra fee is 15% of $35.00, which is $5.25. Fees rise to $9.03 and you keep $25.97, which is 74.2%. Etsy is taking 25.8% of that order rather than 10.8%, and the seller never saw the order coming from an ad. That gap is why the Offsite box matters.

For Canada, Australia and New Zealand Etsy publishes a higher processing rate for international orders. Tick "International order" to use it. The default is the domestic rate. The fees by country guide lists the sources.
What this calculator does not cover
It does not add the 2.5% currency conversion fee (see the currency conversion guide), Etsy Ads, shipping labels bought through Etsy, the deposit fees Etsy charges in South Africa and the Philippines for small payouts, the Etsy Plus subscription, or the one-time shop set-up fee. It also cannot know whether an order will be attributed to Offsite Ads, so it shows both cases. VAT and GST rates are the standard national rates, not figures Etsy publishes, and the right treatment depends on your VAT status, so check your own situation. To go from fees to real profit, use the Etsy profit calculator; for the Offsite effect alone, the Offsite Ads calculator.

Frequently asked questions
How much does Etsy take from a sale?
Etsy stacks several fees. For a US shop they are a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee on item price plus shipping plus gift wrap, and payment processing of 3% of the order total plus $0.25. Offsite Ads (15% or 12%, capped at $100 per order) and a regulatory operating fee in some countries apply only when relevant. On a $30 item with $5 shipping the first three come to $3.78, so you keep $31.22 of $35.00 before your own costs.
Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?
Yes. Etsy states that the 6.5% transaction fee is charged on the listing price plus the amount you charge for shipping and gift wrapping, and that the payment processing fee is assessed on the total amount of the sale, including tax and shipping. This calculator puts shipping inside the fee base for that reason.
What is the Etsy payment processing fee in my country?
It depends on where your shop is. Etsy publishes 3% + $0.25 for the United States, 4% + 0.20 GBP for the United Kingdom, 3% + 0.25 CAD for Canada (4% on international orders), 3% + 0.25 AUD for Australia (4% international), 4% + 0.30 EUR for Ireland and Malta, 3% + 0.30 NZD for New Zealand (4% international), 4.4% + 0.35 SGD for Singapore, 5% + 25 INR for India, 4.5% + 8 ZAR for South Africa and 4.5% + 25 PHP for the Philippines. Pick your country in the calculator to use the right one.
When is the Offsite Ads fee charged?
Only on orders Etsy attributes to a click on one of its off-Etsy ads, when the buyer purchases within 30 days of that click. The fee is 15% of the order total for shops that made less than $10,000 USD in the prior 365 days and 12% once a shop has reached that amount, never more than $100 USD per order. Tick the Offsite box in the calculator to see the effect.
Do I pay a listing fee every time something sells?
Etsy charges $0.20 USD when a listing is published, again when it auto-renews after four months, and again for each extra quantity that sells. The calculator includes one listing fee per order as the typical case. Outside the US the listing fee is shown in your currency at an approximate rate because Etsy converts it at market rate.
Is this calculator exact?
It is an estimate built from the rates Etsy publishes, checked on the date shown under the result. Your monthly statement is the final word, and a few lines (VAT or GST on fees, the listing fee outside the US) use standard or approximate values that are flagged on the page. This is not tax or accounting advice and KeepCent is not affiliated with Etsy.
Is there a currency conversion fee?
Etsy charges 2.5% of the sale amount when the currency a listing is priced in differs from the currency of your payment account. It is not added to this calculator because it depends on your setup; if it applies to you, add 2.5% of the order total to the result. The currency conversion guide explains when it applies.
Are my numbers saved or sent anywhere?
No. The calculation runs in your browser. The "Copy link to these numbers" button puts your inputs into the link you copy, so you can share a scenario; that link is not stored on our server.
