Etsy Currency Conversion Fee: When 2.5% Applies
Updated Oct 25, 2026 · 3 min read
Etsy charges 2.5% of the sale amount when the currency a listing is priced in differs from the currency of your payment account. If both match, no conversion fee applies. On a 35.00 USD sale paid into a GBP account the fee is about 0.88 USD.
The Etsy currency conversion fee is easy to miss, because it only appears when two currencies disagree. According to Etsy's help article on currency conversion fees, if the currency a listing is priced in differs from the currency of your payment account, Etsy charges a 2.5% currency conversion fee on the sale amount to send the funds to your payment account. If both currencies are the same, there is nothing to convert and no fee.
Who it affects
The fee depends on how your shop is configured, not on which country your buyer lives in. A seller with a payment account in pounds who prices listings in US dollars pays it on every sale. A seller who prices in pounds into a pound account does not. Sellers who price for an overseas audience in that audience's currency are the ones most likely to meet it. Check the currency shown on your listings against the currency of your payment account, then look for conversion rows on your monthly statement.
A worked example
A UK-based seller prices an item at $30.00 with $5.00 shipping in US dollars, but her payment account is in pounds. The sale amount is $35.00. The currency conversion fee is 2.5% of $35.00, which is $0.875, so about $0.88 (rounded). On top of that sit the normal fees on the same order: the listing fee, the 6.5% transaction fee on $35.00, which is $2.28, the processing fee and the regulatory operating fee. Her full fee stack for that order is higher than a seller pricing in pounds, with the conversion fee adding roughly 2.5 percentage points to the take rate.
Over a month with 100 such orders of $35.00, the fee comes to about $87.50, an amount that is easy to overlook because it appears as a small line on each sale.
What the fee is not
It is not the listing fee. Etsy states the listing fee as $0.20 USD per listing and converts it to your payment account currency at the market rate. The calculators on this site show that fee in your currency at an approximate rate, and they flag it as an approximation. The conversion fee is also not a hidden margin on the exchange rate: it is a separate 2.5% line that Etsy names. How Etsy treats the exchange rate itself is outside this guide, and we cannot verify it, so compare an actual sale on your statement if you want to know the effective cost.
Does the calculator include it?
No. The Etsy fee calculator and the profit calculator use the fees that every order has, and the conversion fee depends on your configuration. If it applies to you, subtract 2.5% of the order total from what you keep. For a $35.00 order, that is $0.88. Do the same when you price: the margin calculator will give a slightly lower margin than you really get if you ignore it.
How sellers reduce it
The only way to remove the fee is to avoid the currency mismatch, usually by pricing in the currency of the payment account. That affects what buyers see and may change conversion for your audience, so consider it as a pricing decision, not as a bookkeeping fix. If you have to keep different currencies, make sure the price you set already includes the 2.5%.

Frequently asked questions
What is the Etsy currency conversion fee?
A fee of 2.5% of the sale amount, charged when the currency of the listing differs from the currency of your payment account, so that Etsy can send the funds to your account.
When is the fee not charged?
When your listings are priced in the same currency as your payment account, no conversion is needed and Etsy does not charge the fee, according to its help article on currency conversion fees.
Is the listing fee in USD also a conversion fee?
No. Etsy states the listing fee as $0.20 USD and converts it to your payment account currency at the market rate. That conversion is how the fee is expressed in your currency, and it is separate from the 2.5% fee on the sale amount.
Does the KeepCent calculator include the conversion fee?
No, because it depends on how your shop is set up. If it applies, add 2.5% of the sale amount to the fees shown or subtract it from what you keep.
Can I avoid the fee?
Often yes, by pricing listings in the currency of your payment account. That is a business decision that affects how buyers see your prices, so consider it before changing anything.
