How these numbers are modelled
- US sellers only. Commission is charged on the item price only; shipping and tax paid by the buyer are not included. The payment processing fee is charged on the whole order total paid by the buyer (item, shipping and tax) plus a fixed amount per order.
- Your tier is your total sales in the last four weeks (28 days) and resets every four weeks. The rate for each category comes from the public rate table in effect since 21 September 2026. Pick your own tier; the default is the standard tier.
- Custom and promotional rates: if Whatnot gave you a custom commission rate (rates as low as 3% exist for qualified high-volume sellers) or a promotion, type it into the custom commission field and it replaces the table rate.
- Not modelled: the Premier Shop commission discount (Whatnot lists it through October 31, 2026), local pickup and private-show exceptions, and the old structure with its $1,500 cap, which is not on the current official page.
How it is calculated
Commission = commission rate x item price x quantity, where the rate depends on your category and on your sales tier (total sales in the last four weeks). Shipping and tax are not part of the commission. Payment processing fee = 2.9% x (item price x quantity + shipping + sales tax) + $0.30. Every line is rounded to the cent. Net payout = item price x quantity + shipping charged - fees. Profit = net payout - item cost x quantity - shipping you pay.
All math runs in your browser; nothing you type is sent to our server. Each line is rounded to the cent and amounts are shown in the currency of the selected country, never mixed.
What Whatnot takes from a US sale
Whatnot charges two things on a sale, and each has a different base. Rates below come from Whatnot's seller fees pages, read on October 26, 2026.
- Commission. A percentage of the item price only. Shipping and taxes paid by the buyer are not included.
- Payment processing. 2.9% of the total order value plus $0.30 per order, where the total includes item price, buyer-paid shipping and taxes.
The new tier table
A new commission structure took effect September 21, 2026. The rate depends on your category and on your sales tier, meaning your total sales across all categories in the last 4 weeks. The tier sets your rate for the next period and resets every four weeks.

The calculator holds all seven tiers for every category, so pick your own tier from the list. If you are unsure of your tier, check your total sales for the last four weeks in your Whatnot seller dashboard and match it to the ranges shown in the tier box.
Worked examples
A $30 fashion item with $6 shipping gives a $36.00 order. At the starting tier commission is $2.40 and processing is $1.34, so fees are $3.74 and you keep $32.26, or 89.6%. At the $50,000 to $99,999 tier the commission drops to $1.65 and you keep $33.01.
With 7% sales tax on a $30 TCG item and $6 shipping at the $15,000 tier, the tax is $2.52. Commission is $2.33 and processing is $1.42, so you keep $32.25. Tax raised only the processing fee.
A $250 coin at the top tier pays $8.75 commission and $7.55 processing. Fees are $16.30 and you keep $233.70.
If you have a custom rate of 6.5% on the $30 item with $6 shipping, commission is $1.95 and you keep $32.71.
Traps to know
- The old structure is outdated. Some calculators still show 8% with a $1,500 cap. The current pages show the tiered table and no cap.
- Tax affects one fee. Commission ignores tax, but processing does not.
- Your tier lags. It is set by the last 4 weeks of sales, so a strong month lowers your next period rate, and a weak one raises it.
- Buyer versus seller. The buyer pays item, shipping and tax. Both fees come out of your payout.
- Premier Shop. The 10% commission discount runs through October 31, 2026 and has no discount from November 1, 2026, so it is not applied here.
Price to list for a target profit
Enter your item cost, the shipping you charge and the shipping you pay, then read the price-to-list result. For an Other category item at the $35,000 tier that cost $10, with $5 shipping charged and paid, you need $20.36 to keep $8.00 profit or $17.83 for a 25% margin.
What this calculator does not model
- Sellers outside the US.
- Promotional rates, unless you enter them as a custom rate.
- Show-specific costs, boosts or ads.
- Cancelled orders changing your tier mid period.
- Withdrawal fees, sales tax rules or income tax.

What is the Whatnot commission in 2026?
Whatnot now uses a tiered table. The commission depends on your category and on your total sales in the last 4 weeks. At the starting tier ($0 to $14,999) it is 8% for Sports, TCG, Fashion, Other Collectibles and Other, and 4% for Coins. Higher tiers lower the rate (checked October 26, 2026).
How do the Whatnot sales tiers work?
The tier is your total sales across all categories in a 4-week (28-day) period. It sets your rate for the next period and resets every four weeks. Tiers run from $0 to $14,999 up to $500,000 and above, seven in total. Cancelled orders are subtracted, and private shows and local pickup do not count.
Is commission charged on shipping and tax?
No. Whatnot says commission is calculated on the sale price of the item, and shipping and taxes paid by the buyer are not included (checked October 26, 2026).
How is the Whatnot processing fee calculated?
In the US it is 2.9% of the total order value plus $0.30 per order. The total order value includes the item price, buyer-paid shipping and taxes. On a $30 item with $6 shipping it is $1.34.
What do I keep on a $30 fashion item with $6 shipping?
At the starting tier the commission is 8%, or $2.40, and processing is $1.34, so fees are $3.74 and you keep $32.26 of the $36.00 order. At the $50,000 to $99,999 tier (5.5% for Fashion) the commission is $1.65, fees are $2.99 and you keep $33.01.
Does sales tax change my fees?
Only the processing fee. On a $30 TCG item with $6 shipping and 7% tax at the $15,000 tier, the tax is $2.52, processing is $1.42 and commission is $2.33, so total fees are $3.75 and you keep $32.25.
Is there still an 8% rate with a cap above $1,500?
The current Whatnot fee pages show the tiered table and do not mention a $1,500 cap. Calculators that show a cap are using the old structure. This calculator does not apply one.
What about the Premier Shop discount and custom rates?
Whatnot states the Premier Shop commission discount of 10% runs through October 31, 2026 and there is no commission discount from November 1, 2026. Whatnot also mentions custom rates for qualified high-volume sellers. If you have one, enter it in the custom rate box.
What price should I list at to take home a target amount?
Use the price-to-list result. Example: an Other category item at the $35,000 tier that cost $10 with $5 shipping charged and paid needs a list price of $20.36 to leave $8.00 profit, or $17.83 for a 25% margin.
